New Plays
Full-length plays, one-acts, early drafts, late drafts, or scenes from something larger. We’re interested in work that has a clear point of view, even if it’s still finding its final shape.
ROYAL UNDERGROUND
THEATRE COMPANY
A home for new work, bold ideas, and artists with something to say.
The Royal Underground Theatre Company is opening a door for playwrights, directors, and theatre makers developing work that deserves a room.
We’re not looking for perfect. Perfect usually means dead on arrival. We’re looking for plays, concepts, and theatrical ideas with pulse: stories that feel urgent, strange, funny, dangerous, intimate, local, impossible, or all of the above.
If you’re carrying a piece that needs actors, conversation, pressure, or a producing home someday, we want to know about it.
Email Your SubmissionFull-length plays, one-acts, early drafts, late drafts, or scenes from something larger. We’re interested in work that has a clear point of view, even if it’s still finding its final shape.
Have a play you think belongs with us? Send the title, the rights situation if you know it, and a short note on why this work matters now.
Readings, experiments, devised work, hybrid theatre, actor-musician ideas, intimate stagings, strange little beasts. If it fits the Underground, we’ll know.
We’re especially interested in Bay Area artists and stories that understand this region beyond the postcard version. Berkeley, Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, Concord, Vallejo, San José: this place has voices worth hearing.
Start the ConversationKeep it simple. Send enough for us to understand the work, the voice, and why you’re reaching out.
A short intro, a synopsis or concept statement, a writing sample or script if you have one, and any relevant links are plenty. If you’re pitching a production idea, tell us why you think Royal Underground is the right room for it.
We may not be able to respond to every submission quickly, and we can’t promise development or production. But we do read with care, and we’re building a long-term artistic ecosystem, not a suggestion box no one checks.
Email us with your project, your materials, and a short note about what you’re hoping to build. No velvet rope. No mystery portal. Just send the work.
